TEHRAN, Iran – Iran’s navy is launching two new ships and a submarine later this week says the Cmdr. Habibolalh Sayyari according to the semi-official Fars News Agency.  Sayyari repeated a recurring threat to close the Strait of Hormuz if I ran is threatened.  “We have never said that we will close the Strait of Hormuz. What we did say was that we do have the capability to do so in the even of any aggression or attack,” he said.  The U.S. has said it will not let Iran close the Strait an important waterway in shipping Middle Eastern oil to the world. Iranian and U.S. vessels have occasionally come in close contact in this region, leading to escalating tensions between Tehran and Washington.
