WASHINTON– The U.S. military is focusing efforts on targeting the financial backbones of terrorists, insurgents and drug traffickers around the world.
In an order signed Dec. 2 by Deputy Defense Secretary Gordon England, the disruption of financial networks and the compilation of intelligence for various U.S. departments and offices is now a primary mission to combat terrorism.

“For first time you will have Navy Seals and Army infantry being taught to look for credit cards and gift cards, SIM cards, identify users, and work with Treasury specialists to trace them back to the source,” said Andy Cochran, former senior counsel with the House Financial Services Committee and head of the Washington-based Counterterrorism Foundation.
