Since Laser Products first introduced their SureFire tactical flashlights, they have literally revolutionized the field. Lately, in addition to leading the charge towards LED-powered tactical lights, SureFire has also diversified their offerings with a line of sound suppressors, which are available in calibers from .223 and 6.8mm to .308 to .338 Lapua, including versions rated for full-auto fire. Of these, their FA556-212 drew my attention.

Originally named the FA556K (that’s how mine was marked) the FA556-212 is a shortened version of SureFire’s FA556AR; both are 5.56mm (.223) suppressors designed for AR carbines, and come equipped with SureFire’s patented Fast-Attach system. At 6 inches long and 1.5 inches in diameter, and boasting an advertised reduction to 135 dB (decibels) at the shooter’s ear, the compact FA556-212 weighs 16 ounces and adds a little less than 4.5 inches to the overall length of the weapon.

This can is ok. How ever, I don’t like how it mounts. For one it covers the barrel apx. 2in which in turn makes it over heat faster and two the fast attach is not so fast to take off with one hand. It sounds a little louder than a .22 with NATO ball ammo. I have yet to shoot it with SS rounds.
