Viridian has announced the release of several new products for 2014, including expanding their line of Reactor products. The reactor is a trigger guard mounted green laser for the Ruger LCP, LC9 and LC380. Now Viridian is shipping out a reactor designed to fit the Smith & Wesson M&P Shield, as well as all polymer-framed Kahr .45 and 9/40 pistols. Scroll down to see a video showcasing what’s new from Viridian.

In addition, the company is now going red with the introduction of the red laser for this particular line of reactors. MSRP for the green laser is $219. MSRP for red is $139, which includes the battery indicator and holster.

Also for 2014 is the X5L-FDE (Flat Dark Earth). Paired with a Tacloc holster, the taclight/laser will ignite instantly when drawn.

You mentioned that the light is activated by a magnet. The Sneaky Pete holsters use magnets to keep the flap shut. Would using this holster cause a problem with the laser?

I have a Sneaky Pete holster for my Shield that I like quite well, will this work with this laser?

Are the holsters that come with the lasers made for left-handed use?

    • Nick Hoffman

Yes, they have some left-handed holsters. And, more and more manufacturers are making holsters with their technology, too! Checkout USGalco.com or CrossBreedHolsters.com!

Will this laser work in other holsters or does it need to be used in the one which comes with the laser? Is there a way to manually turn the laser on and off? Does the laser automatically turn off after a certain length of time?

Viridian products work in any holster, but the auto-on/auto-off feature requires holsters made specifically to include the tech – a rare-earth magnet that activates and de-activates the light. Yes, the laser and light/laser have manual controls, too, as well as multiple modes (ie: steady, flashing/strobing, etc.). Great products!
