Spyderco “water use” knives comprise a collection called “Salt.” The Salt models are built of H1 steel. A precipitation-hardened steel, it’s hard without heat-treating. It’s “nitrogen-added,” a steel that’s nitrogen hardened without the use of carbon to enhance hardness.
A steel developed in a Japanese foundry, H1 is extremely rust resistant. According to Spyderco, hardness is about 58 Hrc. Their line of Salt knives is popular with the kayak, fishing, surfing and diving crowd. It should have a place in the police gear arena as well.
