Beretta U.S.A. Corp. announced today its receipt of a U.S. Army contract to provide up to 450,000 Beretta Model 92FS pistols to U.S. military customers throughout the world.  The total value of the contract, if all pistol quantities and associated spare parts are ordered, is $220 million.

The contract was awarded along with a first delivery order for 20,000 pistols intended for the Iraqi military.  Delivery of pistols against the contract has already begun.

“We are honored to see the quality and performance of the Beretta Model 92FS pistol continue to be acknowledged in this dramatic way,” commented Cav. Ugo Gussalli Beretta, President of Beretta U.S.A.  “It is clear that the Beretta 9mm pistol still sets the standard for military users throughout the world.”

“This contract will help ensure jobs for hundreds of U.S. workers in the Beretta U.S.A. factory in Maryland for years to come,” added Jeff Reh, General Counsel and Vice-General Manager for Beretta U.S.A.  “Beretta U.S.A. was awarded the contract to provide the Beretta 9mm Model 92FS pistol as the standard sidearm for the U.S. Armed Forces back in 1985 and we have continued to do so on a constant basis ever since.  About three years ago, Beretta U.S.A. received 13 separate contracts to provide Beretta 9mm pistols and associated spare parts to the U.S. Armed Forces.  This new, larger contract will continue our efforts by supporting foreign military customers of the U.S. around the world.

It’s a crying shame that not only an inferior service rifle but also the service pistols are being given to our good men in the armed forces.

It should have been SIG and also at least a 40cal.

Don’t necessarily dislike Beretta, even own two.
But it’s by far not the best choice.
SIG and H&K rock and beat Beretta’s any given day.
    Just my opinion.

1911 nostalgists and people who think that 1 mm makes the difference between a round that does nothing and one that kills instantly break out in tears of anger and disbelief.

If you want to hurt someone use a 9. If want to put em down use a 45 or at leasat a40. Someone was paid off as usual. Makes me sick to send our troops out with the wrong equiptment….

good for the Military but if thay are going to go with the Beretta go with the 92A1 or the 96A1 both come in 9mm or 40 cal give or boys the 40 cal not the 9mm. to put the Bad guys down. I have the S&W M&P 40 cal outstanding gun.

I agree with may of the points here. My Beretta 92A1 9mm is an incredible gun. Accurate as all get out. But if someone comes into my house and I want to drop him…I’m grabbing my Sig .45 1911. Our boys fighting overseas for us need something with a little more punch. Give them the .40 cal version!

MOST MEN WON’T KNOW THE DIFFERENCE between which gun fired a 9, 40 or 45 round after it expands 14 inches inside their chest cavity.

The round matters little, American Rifleman’s analysis. At close range a well place 380 will take one down as well as a 9, a 9 as a 40, and a 40 as a 45.

Spec out DPX 9 and 40 and see just how close the performance is.

You know what I ALWAYS find funny – people that talk sh*t about 9mm and preach 40 and 45 are those that have never had to use what’s in their hands…. Having had to actually use my M9 on a human target, it “gets the job done”, for what it is and the job requirment; it’s more then enough. It wouldn’t matter if you’re using a 40 or 45, the military more often than not doesn’t provide enough training on handguns so most who carry one (exception being medics, MP’s, Infanty, Cav, and SOF) aren’t going to be able to hit shit with their sidearm.

That said shot placement matters more than bore size. Let’s be real, if someone put 2-4 rounds in your chest, would you be able to tell the difference between a 9mm, 40, or 45? Also another fun fact, anything in ball is going to “suck” and require multiple hits to put a man down – but please my CIB I’m wrong….
