Colt Defense has been awarded an Indefinite-Delivery/Indefinite-Quantity contract by the U.S. Marine Corps for up to 12,000 M45 Close Quarter Battle Pistols (CQBP), plus spares and logistical support. The new CQBP is a direct descendant of the iconic Colt M1911 adopted by the U.S. military in 1911 and carried as the primary sidearm through all the major conflicts of the 20th century.

The CQBP contract is for a five-year period and has a potential value of up to $22.5 million. The CQBP expands on a long history of MARCORSYSCOM re-building original Government-issue 1911s, primarily for use by Force Recon and MARSOC units.

“This is a truly gratifying contract award,” said Gerry Dinkel, President and CEO of Colt Defense. “To have the 1911 selected again for U.S. Forces 101 years after its initial introduction is just an incredible testament to the timeless design and effectiveness of the Colt 1911. Colt Defense looks forward to another great partnership with the Marine Corps as we renew industry production of the military 1911.”

The initial Delivery Order on the contract is for 4036 CQBP, plus spares. Deliveries will begin later this year.

Well, while arguing Colt or Kimber, who is copying who; it is Browning of Belgium who created it… Despite all tradition to the venerable 1911 in many wars, 14 shot in a light and extreme reliable, lighter & compact Glock .45 are making my choice!
BUT, Colt or Glock; better than Beretta 🙂

I would have selected the FNP-45 Tactical. It is reliable, accurate, with a high capacity magazine.

I am glad to see the “work-horse” come of retirement.
The return to the battlefield will save lives and ammo.
Now we need to configure the MP5 to a .45 cal.

Good luck and Gods speed Marines

Good choice. The 1911 always has been better than all those “exotic” others that claim to be better. Question: if all those other pistols are as good as the “experts” say they are, then why does every manufacturer attempt to compare to the 1911? I’ve used them all, and the 1911 will always be a better choice.

CBec, the real expects can get the job done with a 1911 magazine and .45 caliber rounds. It only takes a double stack magazine with 9 mm and amateurs.

I love how your opinions are superior to Force Recon operators and MARSOC.If they believed any of the pistols you mentioned were “superior” they would be using them and not having MARSOC armorers Frankensteining old 1911s.

Bad choice in my opinion. Moderately priced 1911’s are junk until you get into the $1,000 range or higher & you can get a much better quality pistol for nearly half the price. Then there’s the low capacity and low mag reliability. They should go with a higher quality like H&K, SIG, FN, or other higher capacity pistol. It’s the troops lives at stake & they need a good sidearm.

Good choice, not great,I would have went with the hk45

I do love my Kimber 1911, but they really should have picked something with a high magazine capacity.
