Pittsburgh police are investigating the theft of more than 900 rounds of ammunition from a car parked in Highland Park.

A man, whose name police did not release, told officers he placed the ammunition inside his Jeep Cherokee outside his Highland Avenue home about 10 p.m. Monday. Police said the man said he was planning to visit a firing range Tuesday.

He got into his car about 1 p.m. yesterday and discovered the ammunition missing, police said. There were no signs of forced entry to the Jeep. The ammunition belonged to a variety of weapons, including 9 mm and .45-caliber pistols, police said.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Zone 5 police station on Washington Boulevard at 412-665-3605.
