The sounds of gunfire greeted firefighters responding to a blaze at a home near West Chicago in unincorporated DuPage County on Tuesday morning.

The sounds were the result of several rounds of ammunition stored in the garage being set off by heat from the fire, Bartlett Fire Protection District officials said.

The homeowner warned firefighters about the ammunition, which was to be used for target practice, and no one was seriously hurt. A resident was treated at a local hospital for smoke inhalation but was released later in the day, fire officials said.
