Federal and state agents are searching a 30-square-mile swath of rugged Montana forest for a former militia leader following a shootout with sheriff’s deputies, authorities said.

David Burgert, 47, exchanged gunfire with Missoula County sheriff’s deputies along a logging trail Sunday after a slow-speed chase near Lolo, officials said. No one was hurt.

Burgert grabbed gear from his Jeep and fled on foot into the woods, Missoula County Undersheriff Mike Dominick said.

Okay now this guy gives a negative image of the term “militia”. The article doesn’t include the fact that he’s diagnosed with paranoia and/or schizophrenia, has had numerous legal encounters with LEOs and neighbors, possession of an automatic weapon and probation violations. He would be hard to defend with our beloved 2nd Amendment. I hope this ends peacefully.

Only in Montana! These People are not cowards. We do not hide in our homes and hope all passes. No, we arm ourselfs like the patriots we are believing in our 2nd admendment right. This is our God given right to defend ourselfs in times of need. My only wish is for the authorites to find him before he tries to hurt someone, just to get away. If not, he will find peace at the end of someones barrel. When family or livestock is involed Montanan’s do not play. give yourself up or rest in peace. That is my final anserw… Jman from Missoula, Mt.
