Marines said goodbye to their families at Camp Pendleton on Monday as they prepared to travel to Afghanistan for a year-long deployment.

Marines of the I Marine Expeditionary Force (Forward) said goodbye to their families at Camp Pendleton on Monday as they prepared to travel to Afghanistan to take command of Regional Command Southwest based at Camp Leatherneck. I Marine Expeditionary Force, which is the last major Marine command that will deploy to Afghanistan, will move equipment and people out of Afghanistan, in addition to assisting in the approaching political transition and presidential election.

I Marine Expeditionary Force, which includes Marines and sailors from the 1st Marine Division, 1st Marine Logistics Group and 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, is heading to Afghanistan for a year-long deployment.
