The Weld County District Attorney’s Office announced Thursday that it will not file criminal charges against a woman who killed a man and wounded another at her home in what she said was an attempted burglary.

“It is kind of sad, but it’s bound to happen eventually,” said Bob Love, who lives nearby.

Karen Cordova, 48, of Erie was initially arrested on charges of second-degree homicide and attempted second-degree homicide. They now say she may have acted in self-defense after the two men botched a robbery.

Perhaps the police HAD to question the surviving burgler, and that the outcome of that investigation validated the woman’s claim of self-defence. I can’t help but wonder whether she would have been arrested if both perpetrators had died at the scene.

Agree^^^ Florida has a similar policy and it works. People should be able to defend themselves especially in their own homes.
