“We got dispatched to a call for cardiac arrest and I was at home, so I responded from home because I was nearby,” says JV Oliver, a volunteer firefighter with the Carrollton Fire Department.

It’s a good thing Oliver did respond, because not far away he found two other first responders in trouble on Tan Road.

“It was probably about two foot of water. Both deputies were standing at the rear of the vehicle and the water was going across the road at a pretty good speed.”

It just so happens Oliver drives a truck. It’s a big truck and it’s a much better match for a flooded road than the deputies’ vehicle.

“I just immediately decided to go in and get them out because they, nobody had any ropes to give to them or anything and the water was going across the road too fast to actually walk out of it. So, I just eased down there and picked them up,” says Oliver.
