Steve Norris, along with K.C. Ertman, a graduate student from Syracuse University, have volunteered to help ACR Consultants dentify which guns may have fired bullets that the archeological firm discovered at the sites of two 19th century battles that occurred about 25 miles south of Sheridan.

The battles took place in December of 1866 as part of the federal government’s war against the American Indians of the Great Plains. One battle, an unnamed skirmish, happened on Dec. 6; the second, known as the Fetterman Massacre, came on Dec. 21.
