ID checkpoints in D.C. area draw criticism from ACLU

WASHINGTON – Starting Saturday night, officers in the D.C. area will check drivers’ ID and turn away anyone who does not have a “legitimate purpose” to be in the area.  The ID checkpoints were brought on by an outbreak of violence that includes eight killings last weekend, but the plan has drawn criticism from civil liberties groups including the ACLU.
