Rockwell City (Iowa) police officer Jamie Buenting was shot and killed during an overnight standoff.

A number of officers responded, and a shot was reportedly fired at 1:40 a.m. today. Buenting was transported to Stewart Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

He leaves behind a wife and two young children.

Buenting, who was a full-time law enforcement officer with the Rockwell City Police Department for the past eight years, had been employed as a law enforcement officer since 1999.

Additionally, he served as a member on a regional Special Emergency Response Team and was a certified firearms instructor on handgun, shotgun and rifle, through both the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy and through the NRA Law Enforcement Division.
