Ireland Bans Handguns

Ireland's Justice Minister Dermot Ahern has signed new gun control…

Ireland’s Justice Minister Dermot Ahern has signed new gun control legislation into law.

The act bans handguns in Ireland and also introduces a requirement for referees, background medical checks and standards for the safe keeping of guns in the home for all firearms licence applicants.

It also makes it an offence to brandish a realistic imitation firearm in public.

Mr Ahern says the legislation is designed to halt the emergence of a gun culture in Ireland.

Thy tried that in te UK, it failed horribly! UK has the highest crime rate involving guns in all of Europe. The rate of gun related crimes went up 200% in the first 6 months afer the bill was passed! The only culture Mr Ahern is promotin is more crime ad mor missery. Baning handuns helps nothing and no one! Havig a system of background checks and sensible legistlation does! Mr Ahern is an idiot if he thinks that this will solve anything.

“Mr Ahern says the legislation is designed to halt the emergence of a gun culture in Ireland.”

    Ahem…

  • It’s apparent that Mr. Ahern is concerned with the safety of two Guantanamo Bay detainees whom he’s allowed to relocate in Ireland.
It’s the typical knee-jerk reaction that liberals are known for. A poor decision if you ask me and if you ask the Irish.

They need a modern day Irish version of the Minute Men, oh wait, they had that. They were labeled terrorists and destroyed. Doublethink.

All they had to do to evaluate the wisdom of this legislation was consult with their UK compatriots in Australia. Since Australia banned various firearms it has experienced a statistically significant increase in crime in virtually every category. Governmental gun haters do not honestly care about the safety of people they serve, they simply hate guns.
