Los Angeles Fire Department has launched a five-man motorcycle response team, in an attempt to enable faster response to critical emergencies.

Their ability to weave their way through the notoriously busy Los Angeles traffic to reach the scene of the emergency could prove an invaluable tool for saving time, money and most importantly, lives. They were first deployed in 2011, and proving a success, recently entered a full pilot period. The team is ridingKawasaki KLR 650s.

According to the Los Angeles Times, each bike ‘is outfitted with a defibrillator, a small fire extinguisher, various medical supplies and a handlebar-mounted GPS system.’
