Medics have rights to carry weapons to protect themselves on the job

Three Rivers Ambulance Authority medics were shot at in their ambulance at over the weekend with no protection.

NewsChannel 15 finds out if first responders, such as firefighters and medics, have the right to carry firearms for protection.

Mark Nelson, Fort Wayne Fire Deputy Chief, said under their policy, medics aren’t allow to carry firearms while on the job. Mike Gillespie, TRAA spokesman, said the same rules apply for its medics. These first responders rely on police to help diminish a volatile situation.
