Military Death Benefits Suspended During Government Shutdown

Families of four soldiers and one Marine killed over the weekend will be denied military death benefits while the government shutdown continues.

In an egregious case of adding insult to injury, the grieving families of four soldiers and one Marine killed in Afghanistan over the weekend have been told that they will be denied military death benefits while the government shutdown continues.

The families will also be denied travel reimbursement for travel to Dover Air Force Base, Del., where they would hope to be on hand for the solemn return of the caskets of their loved ones.
