North Carolina’s first military public charter school, called Paul R. Brown Leadership Academy, opened this week.

Students, who will be referred to as cadets and dressed in military uniforms, will have a different, more stricter, type of education compared to other schools.

Commandant of cadets, Carl Lloyd, said, “When you go to a military school, you don’t just walk into the dining hall and say, ‘I’ll have that, I’ll have that, I’ll take that.’  There’s a procedure to it.”

There are currently 65 cadets enrolled in the school.
