New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman inserted himself into the national gun control policy, urging U.S. Senate leaders Wednesday to block legislation that would force states to recognize concealed gun carrying permits issued elsewhere in the U.S.

The legislation is called the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act, and it would allow anyone with a valid permit to carry a concealed firearm in a state to do so in any other state. That means anyone who obtains a permit in a state with lax gun laws can still carry a firearm in states with strict regulations. Schneiderman said the legislation would gut law enforcement efforts to combat gun violence in New York.

“Stated simply, it would make the people of my state — where we have long-held standards intended to keep firearms out of the hands of those who should not have them — less safe,” Schneiderman, a Democrat in his first term as attorney general, wrote to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Republican leader Sen. Mitch McConnell.

NO offense but this Attorney General is a moron, i hate politicians thatarget Law abiting citizens, How can be unsafe since this law is for CPL holders only, every single person is backround checked, he sounds like that CPL holdres are criminals because we carry firearms, why doesn’t he say that most gun violence in his state is caused by criminals thats shouldn’t have firearms the first place but they do and use them aginst armless hopless law abiting citizens, this is United states not separete states dude and the 2nd Amedment should apply every where not only some states, how many more innesent people have to die because they fell victims and could not defend them selfs, this is why we need normal people in the office,

  • I’ve read New York State Attorney General Eric Schneiderman’s letter to Majority Leader Reed and Mitch McConnell, several times. I wanted to be sure that I did not miss his point. Regrettably, my only take away from that exercise is that his logic is completely flawed, or that he’s working from an uninformed position. It was quite amazing.
Given news published today saying that 5 officers in the NYPD were participating in gun smuggling activities, Mr.Schneiderman’s focus should be closer to home and not law abiding conceal carry permit holders.
Read his letter it’s amazing. Then contact your Representative and Senator and ask that they support HR 822.
