Two U.S. Army Marksmanship Unit Soldiers competed in the men’s 50-meter rifle prone event this morning at the Royal Artillery Barracks in southeast London. Staff Sgt. Michael McPhail just missed out on making the final, losing out in a shoot-off after shooting a qualification score of 595. McPhail shot a 51.3 in the shoot-off, missing out by .3 for a ninth-place finish. .3 is equivalent to two millimeters in distance. His USAMU teammate Sgt. 1st Class Eric Uptagrafft was also oh-so close after shooting a 594 for 14th place. Belarus’ Sergei Martynov tied the world record in qualification with a perfect score of 600.
