WASHINGTON – Pentagon advisers are urging the Air Force to drastically change it’s management of the U.S. nuclear arsenal. The group argued that past mistakes have shaken international confidence in the ability of the U.S. to provide adequate protection. The group recommended changes to structure and funding and would like to see a consolidation of responsibilities under one command. Defense Secretary Robert Gates agreed with the findings by stating, “One of the concerns that I had is lack of unity of command and not having one person or organization accountable for the overall mission.”
