Police responding to an active shooter situation at a West Virginia courthouse eventually shot and killed the assailant.
Thomas J. Piccard, 55, was killed at the scene after authorities say he shot about two dozen shots toward the federal courthouse in Wheeling. Police returned fire as the suspect was in the act of firing at the building. Piccard was shot by a court security officer and a Wheeling Police officer.
