Joey Lucci sits with Jjurgens, Trinity’s newest student, a 4-month-old yellow lab named Jjurgens. The dog will stay on campus until October before entering explosives detection training through the Lackland-based TSA’s Puppy Program. The university has previously brought puppies to campus as incentives to snap their yearbook photos and to provide stress relief during finals week. Jurgens, who already has a hundred Twitter followers and more than 300 Facebook fans and is named after Port Authority police officer Paul W. Jurgens of Long Island who was killed in 9/11.
