The U.S. has asked for more access to civilian and military facilities in the Philippines.
U.S. officials held talks with officials from the Philippines in the hopes of gaining greater access in order to deploy aircraft, ships, troops and equipment as part of a new security deal.
Carlos Sorreta, a senior foreign ministry official, said, “The specific areas where they will be, or the activities and exercises, will be listed, but not the number of troops, not the operational details.”
The talks between the two nations will continue in Washington later this month.
