World War II veterans, many in wheelchairs, broke past a barricade Tuesday morning to cross into the World War II Memorial, as onlookers applauded and a man playing the bagpipes led the way. A line of veterans rolled past security officers, who willingly stood aside.

    The closure and barricades are not put up to punish citizens, but to protect the national monuments for the future visits! People need to get over this “oppressive govt” b.s. And realize we have to have systems of protection and upkeep to make this country and its investments work and survive(including our people)

    Thosr vets should have kicked ARROGANT SEN. TED CRUZ’S BUTT for having the hypocritical audacity ti come out and grandstand at a monument and “complain about the shut down” when its people like him and his fringe group of GOP teabaggers causing the problems!( guys like Cruz want to pass legislation and a budget that CUTS benefits to old military vets, the elderly, and poor kids- doubt thats the govt those angry vets FOUGHT to protect…)
