Waco Law Enforcement Undergoes In-Depth Tactical Training

Waco law enforcement agencies cover everything from hostage negotiation to an angry parent storming the school with a firearm.

Law enforcement agencies from around Waco, Texas, took part in various tactical training scenarios Thursday.

The in-depth, nearly eight-hour training took part at the Waco Montessori School, according to the Waco Tribune.

Waco police Sgt. W. Patrick Swanton said the training, which Waco does about every five months, was in conjunction with Woodway Public Safety, and the Robinson and Hewitt police departments.

… Swanton said officers enacted several different scenarios Thursday, including negotiating a suicide with hostages, a boardroom meeting that turned violent and an angry parent storming a school and opening fire.

“This type of training is two-fold. We’re learning and training as a department, but also preparing citizens for what could happen in their business if they have violence in the workplace,” Swanton told the Waco Tribune.

“We get equipment training, procedure training and cross-training with the various agencies involved,” he told the Tribune. “All around, it makes us better police officers and it makes our communities safer.”
