Optical Battlesights
Marksmanship’s quick fix gadgetry or wave of the future?

Though iron sights have been serving the military forces of the world well for many decades, an interesting trend is becoming evident. Beginning first with our SpecOps forces in Afghanistan, then with more and more conventional US forces in Iraq, optical battlesights have begun to appear in ever-increasing profusion.
Whether or not this trend will continue or whether it’s actually a good idea in the first place depends upon the observer’s perspective. Many of the older generation of shooters feel strongly that, other than for snipers, optical sights of any kind on a standard infantry rifle are nothing more than an attempted quick fix for less than efficient rifle marksmanship training.
