Gates Scraps New Combat Vehicles Budget

WASHINGTON — The new defense budget submitted by Defense Secretary Robert Gates does not include a continuation of Army plans for new combat vehicles. Gates decided to scrap the program that cost nearly $14 billion in research and development because the vehicles will not adequately protect troops from roadside bombs.
