Homeland Security gives border update; unmanned aerial vehicles on the horizon.
Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said Monday afternoon that additional unmanned aerial vehicles will allow coverage of the U.S. Southwest Border from El Centro, Calif., to the Gulf of Mexico.
The latest unmanned vehicle will be airborne Wednesday, Napolitano said in a teleconference from Washington, D.C.

Royal Canadian Mounted Police says gun registry ‘useful tool.’
An internal R-C-M-P evaluation to be released today calls the federal gun registry a “useful tool” for police.

California Senate rejects open-carry gun ban.
The California Senate rejected a bill Monday that would have made it illegal to carry unloaded guns in public, but lawmakers will give the vote one more try.
