Less-Than-Perfect Shot

When we go to the range to practice our defensive shooting skills, everything is pretty much cut and dry. The targets are at a set range, they are full sized (18 by 30 inches) in the open, and well defined and clearly visible. This is all well and good for basic training and for maintaining fundamental shooting skills, but as usual, there is more to it than that.

tactics2.jpgIn the real world the problem will suddenly present itself, most often unexpectedly. We won’t be able to choose the conditions where we must defend ourselves. The lighting will generally be poor, the range variable, and the target only partially visible. Your attacker may be moving erratically, and quite possibly you will be forced to engage it at a strange or unexpected angle. In all probability, if you have not had prior warning of the problem, you yourself will be caught in an unexpected and awkward position.
