Pastor Preaches Protection
Armed and willing to use force against hatred to protect and defend those in his care!
History in the US and around the world tells us that violence directed against a church is not unusual. Yet it seems rather shocking to us that we would be dealing with it at this time and that may be because we think of ourselves as an advanced society. When you consider the aggressive nature of the entertainment media to belittle and attack religious structures maybe we should not be surprised that some people are acting out their hatred in this manner.
In May of 2008, a man with a rifle opened fire outside a San Fernando Valley church wounding three people, one of them critically. It happened during a church school festival at St. John Baptist de la Salle, a Roman Catholic Church. On March 8, 2009 a 27-year-old young man in Maryville, Illinois shot Pastor Fred Winters to death. At least four other churchgoers were also wounded but survived the attack.
In the first two months of 2009, Christian Security Network “registered 139 incidents in 31 states against Christian churches, schools and ministries.” These reports could go on far too long and reveal something that every congregation, Christian school, religious group and religious leader must consider.
