A Routine Traffic Stop?
A murderer on the run for 24 years— not quite routine!
The most common way that officers initiate enforcement, and probably one of the most high-profile tasks which they perform, is to conduct traffic stops. Before you finish reading this, thousands of American cops will have stopped violators all over our great land in the performance of their duties.
Vehicle stops are often referred to as “routine,” but officers shouldn’t approach them lightly. Depending on what year’s stats you examine, between 10 to 15 percent of all officers murdered feloniously in the line of duty are killed on traffic stops. An officer never knows who he’s stopping, if they are armed, whether that person is wanted, or how desperate they might be to get away.
