Humans are diurnal rather than nocturnal creatures. Simply put, we are at our best during the day and far less efficient in the dark. During the night, we naturally seek rest and sleep.
Of course, modern life complicates matters and we often find ourselves going against the grain. We wake up too early to work and play long into the evening. One very disturbing trend is that risk to our personal safety is at its greatest during the hours of darkness. This is true for both citizens and law enforcement officers.
