Shots Fired: How Many’s Too Many?

Shoot till you believe there is no longer a threat — your life is at stake!

After decades of attacking law enforcement on various use-of-force issues, the cop watchdogs’ favorite assault on police seems to be centered on counting the number of shots fired during an officer involved shooting (OIS).

2.jpgAt the outset, let me make it clear that I hate to see more shots fired than are “necessary.” To be perfectly candid, in the shooting incidents I have been involved in (three shots each), I actually wish I had fired more rounds, and on several occasions where I held my fire, I wish I hadn’t. However, we have to go with what we believe is appropriate in the milliseconds we get to make these decisions.
