1 of every 100 Americans in jail

MSNBC

NEW YORK - For the first time in U.S. history, more than one of every 100 adults is in jail or prison, according to a new report released Thursday.  The report documents America’s rank as the world’s No. 1 incarcerator and urges states to minimize corrections spending by placing fewer low-risk offenders behind bars.  The increase of incarcerations nationwide has also led to an increase in prison spendings, causing finances to jump from $11 billion to $49 billion over a 20-year time period.  For details, click here and return back to comment.
