Fresno police have a new SWAT training center, while Fresno County authorities are getting a new morgue.

Police on Tuesday unveiled the new $12.8 million training center that includes firearm shooting ranges, a skid pad to simulate wet driving conditions and a facility where officers will train for SWAT operations.

Police Chief Jerry Dyer told the Fresno Bee that the center will provide realistic training for officers.

The training center opened just before work began on a new $7.5 million morgue that will replace the current morgue built in 1948.

Called the Fresno County Regional Forensic, the county is using restricted tobacco settlement funds to pay for the project.
