Today is 5-Year Anniversary of Blackwater Deaths, Onset of Fall of Fallujah

via CNN

fallujah_2004.jpgMarch 31, 2009– Today marks five years since the four Blackwater contractors were ambushed in Fallujah on March 31, 2004.  It is also the five year anniversary of the onset of what is now known as the “Fall of Fallujah.”

Gunmen attacked vehicles holding Blackwater civilian employees Jerry Zovko, Mike Teague, Wesley Batalona and Scott Helvenston, set the vehicles on fire and then strung the bodies on a bridge over the Euphrates River.  Shocking images of Iraqis celebrating in front of the charred bodies and burning vehicles were televised and printed around the world, marking the beginning of what the U.S. Military described as “some of the heaviest urban combat U.S. Marines have been involved in since the Battle of Huế City in Vietnam.”

But within the willingness to die for family and home, something inside us longs for someone to die beside. Someone to lock step with, another man with a heart like our own

    Rest In Peace Brothers
