SPRINGFIELD’s M1A SOCOM with VLTOR M1A stock chassis system
Springfield shows off their popular M1A SOCOM rifle with a 6-position collapsible VLTOR M1A stock chassis system. The Flat Dark Earth color suggests its rugged ability to withstand the harshest environments and the billet T6 aluminum construction gives the rifle a rigid platform to mount accessories like the SureFire M900 vertical foregrip and weapon light seen in these pictures. The M1913 rails are positioned at 3, 6, 9 and 12 o’clock with the top rail being positioned to ideally accept optical sights and scopes.

The problem with this design is that Expansion and Contraction rate between Fiberglass and Aluminum is drastically different. SO you get a Thermostat effect. One part expands more than the other causing part or all of the stock system to warp. This effects the relationship between the Optic and barrel and causes your point of impact to shift in comparison to where you had it sited in before. So if was cold and the barrel was cold it will move when it warms up and your shots will be off after it warms up. If it was warm it will move when it gets cold and your first few shots at least will be off.
Either way Opening day, or Combat are not appropriate places to be trying to figure out where it is going to shoot today! No time to practice or readjust your scope.

I think we have established that it is vltor… but if your life depends on it.. fiberglass or alumunim… make the call.

The picture shown is an M1a Socom 2 on a Veltor Modstock not a troy industries. Troy industries manufactures an aluminum chassis that does not utilize the original socom 2 railings which are also made by Veltor

Yes it is a VLTOR. I have almost the same set up as pictured, minus the surefire. VLTOR’s stock is lighter than the Troy Industries.

That’s not a troy industries stock, it’s VLTOR’s stock design.
