SRT’s Matrix M9 Suppressor
Born from the 9mm suppressor competition—designed to be super silent!
SRT (Sound Research Technologies) Arms submitted several sound suppressors to an Army competition to find the best off-the-shelf suppressor for the M9 pistol. Most suppressors submitted to Picatinny Arsenal featured a recoil regulator to temporarily negate the inertia of the suppressor, which can inhibit the extraction and ejection sequence. SRT’s Matrix M9 suppressor did not include a regulator. That was a bold move.
Most centerfire pistol suppressors being fielded today include a recoil regulator to ensure reliable functioning, especially when the pistol is dirty. SRT’s design goals were simple: offer the simplest, shortest, lightest, most maintenance-free and economical suppressor that can meet the design and performance criteria established for the competition. Eliminating the regulator was the easiest way to achieve that.
