Three DTA 9mm Suppressors

DeGroat Tactical Armaments LLC recently delivered three innovative, world-class sound suppressors to troops in Iraq. Designed for the Beretta M9, Walther P99, and Heckler & Koch’s MP5-N submachine gun, these suppressors are deployed in relatively large numbers. It’s hard to overstate how impressed I am with these suppressors, the man who designed them, as well as the story behind their development. Before we take a detailed look at the innovative technology in these suppressors, let’s start at the beginning.

optech.jpgThis story really begins in January 2007, when a military broker contacted James DeGroat (the president of DTA) to bid on a military contract for 214 titanium Miniguns. While DeGroat built his reputation building Miniguns, he felt that they couldn’t produce the guns within the time constraints of the bid. Then the broker asked if DeGroat could make suppressors. He said sure, it shouldn’t be a problem.
