A style. An artist or craftsman knows they’ve reached the heights of their profession when they have both a recognizable and sought-after style. Everyone recognizes the spare “white space” style of Count Basie’s piano, or the bursting exuberance of Louis Armstrong’s trumpet.
The same is true of knifemakers, too. Among the throngs of makers turning out drop-point hunters and variations on the standard themes of fighters, there are some rare makers who’ve developed a style that is instantly recognizable. And there are even fewer whose knives are also highly sought after for their practical capabilities.
