SOG Enters The Auto Race
The new SOG-TAC—a great all-purpose utility folder that springs into action day or night!
If you are like me, you are probably amazed at how many mainstream cutlery companies are adding full-auto folders to their lines. One of the most recent introductions to this ever-growing field is the SOG Specialty SOG-TAC Automatic being produced in the company’s equally new Oregon plant.
SOG-TAC Specs
The SOG-TAC starts with a 3.5-inch blade of AUS-8 stainless. As per practically all modern autos, a Florida “black knife” type coil spring is used to propel the blade. I would have to call the general blade pattern a mild clip-point with a continuous curved, upswept edge. The spine of the knife offers thumb placement ridges for delicate cutting chores. The handle is hard anodized aluminum with G-10 inserts and a reversible steel carry clip. There is a glow-in-the-dark insert on the left side of the handle to make working in low-light situations easier. A conventional push-button blade release is located on the left side of the handle and the safety is mounted directly across from it on the right side. Blades can be had in both satin and Black TiNi finishes. The knife weighs 3.8 ounces and the suggested retail prices are as follows: $155 for the polished version and $170 for the black TiNi variation.
