Tactical footwear has come a long way from the original combat boot with its simple leather uppers, thin leather sole and non-existent arch support. During the Vietnam War, it was realized that an all-leather boot rotted in jungle climates, retained water and had a sole that quickly clogged with mud. As a result, better versions of boots were introduced. Improvements in ankle and arch support, plus modern lightweight synthetic materials and better bonding techniques combined to make increasingly effective, comfortable, and versatile tactical footwear.
Here, we compared seven new samples, (plus an old pair of G.I. boots) from major manufacturers. The accompanying chart below tells the story that should help you choose the right footwear for your needs.
