Martial arts trainer Steve Tarani is well known in law enforcement circles for his International Chiefs of Police (IACP) Model Policy on the carry and usage of knives by law enforcement officers. Tarani has also worked as a subject matter expert and advisor to the FBI, DEA, TSA, NSA, and DOD on close-quarter use of force training.
I first met Steve some years ago at a week-long edged weapons seminar. Tarani’s specialty was the Indonesian karambit, a hook-bladed weapon that he has since become well known for. Lately he has been working with 5.11 Tactical on developing a new line of folding knives especially created to meet the needs of active duty law enforcement professionals.
