What kind of rifle will you take on your next predator stalk? Author Jay Langston wanted to try out a new AR-style rifle for a coyote hunt near Montana’s High-Line. Before his departure, he got his hands on the Del-Ton Evolution, a new 5.56mm AR with Flat Dark Earth furniture, and reported back in the upcoming November 2013 issue of Rifle Firepower.

The Evolution is a direct-gas-impingement carbine with a mid-length gas system and a 16-inch, chrome-moly-vanadium barrel with a chrome-lined bore and a 1-in-9-inch twist rate. Where does it get its name? The 12.37-inch Samson Evolution free-floating handguard that surrounds the barrel, which has several S-shaped lightening cuts that also serve to help dissipate barrel heat.

So was the rifle ready for a hunt in the mountains of the West? Jay Langston could only find coyotes “After battling 35-mph winds and a wind chill approaching zero.” To find out if the Evolution could perform in these extreme conditions, check out the November 2013 issue of Rifle Firepower, available on newsstands and digitally August 13, 2013.
