The two-hour exercise involved members of the Huntsville Police Department and the Madison County Sheriff’s Office. The drill took place at Huntsville High School’s Freshman Academy, according to WHNT19 in Alabama.
While officers and deputies knew a drill was scheduled for Monday morning, they received few details in advance. Madison County Sheriff Blake Dorning says it was important there be, “a little bit of surprise, a little bit of obstacles for our men to overcome.”
“Just the opportunity for our agencies to work together in what’s as close to a real situation as we can get is critical,” Huntsville Police Department Chief Lewis Morris told WHNT19.
“It helps us test our equipment, our communications [and] our ability to organize quickly,” Morris added.
