As Tuscaloosa News reports, McCollum started in law enforcement by working base security when he joined the U.S. Navy. After that, he spent four years serving as a police officer in Fayette. He then spent 25 years working as a special agent and a manager of special agents with the Burlington Northern Railroad before retiring.
“Appointing you to this position comes with great responsibility because you will be making important decisions that affect the citizens of Alabama,” Bentley wrote in a letter to McCollum. “Honesty and integrity are two virtues that I prioritize for my administration to exemplify, and I know that you will do the same while in service to our great state.”
